History of Silver Use To Fight Infection
Silver has been used for centuries as an antiseptic and to retard spoilage of food and water. The ions of silver have been known to counter microbes, including viruses, bacteria and, to a lesser degree, fungi.
For many centuries people would commonly put a piece of silver in their water supply to keep it from going foul. Silver preparations have long been applied to cuts, wounds and burns to prevent infection.
During times of plague, those who could afford it used silver to combat the problem. The phrase "born with a silver spoon in his mouth" referred to wealthy families having their children suck on a spoon made of silver to ward off infection.
Even in modern times silver compounds were routinely used in hospitals. A silver preparation was dropped into the eyes of newborn babies to eradicate problem bacteria and protect their eyes. Silver sprays have also been used on victims with serious burns.
Some carbon water filters are impregnated with silver to prevent bacteria growth on the carbon.
Silver has long been known to be a powerful, natural antibiotic and preventive against infections. Acting as a catalyst, it reportedly disables the enzyme that one-celled bacteria, viruses and some fungi need for their oxygen metabolism. They suffocate without corresponding harm occurring to human enzymes or parts of the human body chemistry. The result is the destruction of disease-causing organisms in the body and in the food.
For a number of years, "colloidal silver" has been a popular health product to help rid the body of harmful organisms.
Colloids are small particles of a substance, such as a mineral, that remain in suspension in a mixture, rather than separating. Most colloids are actually still too large for good absorption and assimilation in the body.
Topically, colloidal silver is often used on cuts, scrapes. burns and rashes as an antiseptic with good results, including preventing scarring. It can also be used in the mouth for dental problems.
Ideally silver particles should have a maximum size no larger than .1 angstrom to be small enough to travel to where needed in the body.
Colloidal silver, which is concentrated with particles too large for absorption, can create problems in the human system. The skin can become gray, and needed friendly intestinal flora can be eliminated, contributing to colon disturbances. The darker the color, the larger the particles and the more likely there could be problems.
How Silver Works
The narrow wave-lengths of energy given off by silver have an effect on the use of oxygen and hydrogen in pathogens. The presence of silver near a virus, fungus, bacterium or any other single celled pathogen disables its oxygen metabolism enzyme.
This damages their DNA so they cannot reproduce or replicate. Within a few minutes, the pathogen suffocates and dies, and is cleared out of the body by the immune, lymphatic and elimination systems.
On the other hand, there is no harm at all to the body's cells, nor to friendly microorganisms. Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics, which destroy beneficial enzymes, silver leaves these tissue-cell enzymes intact, as they are radically different from the enzymes of primitive single-celled life.
